Testimonials

When I moved in a new house, I was shocked how dirty and old looking were the tiles everywhere in the house. I wasn't sure whether they were suppose to be like it. I decided to ring Tile Cleaners to ask them to have a look and tell me what was wrong with my tiles. Tile Cleaners arrived on the weekend morning and ended up making my floors looking brand new. They also informed me that the sealer they used would protect my tiles for another 10 years. Amazing! Thank you guys! My floors look gorgeous.

Efflorescence Treatment

Efflorescence is the formation of salt deposits on or near the surface of the tile or concrete. It can also be described as the white powder or crusty deposit which appears on the surface of the joint or the edge of the tile. Usually white in colour, it does change the visual appearance of the surface. Other then the discolouration, efflorescence is usually harmless. In some very porous tiles, the deposits can appear on the tile itself.

efflorescence on tile

Efflorescence is caused by multiple of factors acting together and in most cases catalysed by environmental conditions. It’s the migration of soluble salts from the grout to the surface. When these come in contact with the air they react with carbon dioxide and form a white salt.

When building or concreting, it is important that new tiles are installed once the concrete is completely dry / cured. Tiling over concrete which still has moisture in it will ensure efflorescence problems in the near future.

Canberra TILE SOLUTIONS have a variety of equipment for effective efflorescence removal. We also carry all the required treatments; agitation tools as well as chemical solutions to safely and effectively removed efflorescence deposits internally and externally.

Efflorescence removal is not a DIY job unless it is in its very early light stages in which cases it could be removed with a stiff brush and a heavy duty efflorescence remover. In later and more advanced stages speciality
equipment and solutions are required.

before and after bluestone floor efflorescence treatment

Once Canberra TILE SOLUTIONS remove the efflorescence from the affected area we will clean the sections thoroughly however just cleaning it will not stop it from returning. Canberra TILE SOLUTIONS adhere to the following process in order to remove efflorescence professionally and minimise / stop it from returning:

1. Inspection of all affected areas
2. Scrub or grind off large deposits
3. Pre treat and agitate all affected areas with suitable solutions
4. Allow time for the solution to work
5. Pressure clean and extract
6. Remove grout from all joints and tile edging
7. Pre seal the empty joints
8. Install new grout
9. Allow new grout to dry
10. Seal all grout lines with a suitable quality sealer
